Luxembourg challenge to the status of public registers of beneficial ownership referred to ECJ

The Luxembourg courts have asked the European Court of Justice (ECJ) to rule on a taxpayer's challenge to the status of public registers of beneficial ownership where a UK firm’s client is pursing the challenge on human rights grounds. The request has direct implications for Ireland in relation to trusts as the introduction of public registers is an EU requirement under the EU Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive although we still do not have a public register for trusts.
